Spectrophotometric: A spectrophotometric assay is used to measure the light absorbed by a particular solute. Spectrophotometric assays are typically used to determine a solute’s presence and/or concentration but, in certain circumstances, may also be used to further characterize the solute.

Immunoassays: An immunoassay is any assay that makes use of the interaction between antibodies and their antigens. Immunoassays may be used to identify, quantitate or further characterize either the antigen or the antibody. The antigen may be relatively simple (drug) or more complex (protein). The antibody may be either monoclonal or polyclonal. Also see Antibody Technology.

Protein Assay: A protein assay is an assay used to measure the concentration of protein in solution. The assay may be spectrophotometric (uv or visible) or antibody-based. Protein assays can be performed on 96-well microtiter plates for high throughput.
