Gel Electrophoresis: The use of an electromagnetic current to push or pull proteins through a gel matrix to separate them based on physical characteristics such as size, shape, or isoelectric point.
Purification: Isolation of a single type of protein from a protein mixture. The various steps in the purification process separate the protein and non-protein parts of the mixture, and finally separate the desired protein from all other proteins. Separation methods may include sizing, ion exchange, HIC and affinity chromatography.
